MUSIC - It gives us the
ability to express human emotion ranging from mellow and sophisticated
jazz to the most primal rock and roll. Primitive man had only his voice
to scream out his rage, but today's guitarists quest for a voice to
express their own primal emotions. Hand built in the USA the Primal
Scream 130 tube amplifier is a raging, screaming entity giving a modern
voice for the guitarist to express emotions that have been with us since
the dawn of man. Emotions we all instinctively respond to. It's three
channels are each voiced for maximum flexibility of tone and it contains
all features needed to deliver these tones in a stylish roadworthy
package.
CHANNELS:
Each of the three channels feature three band EQ and a
distinctive voicing:
The Clean Channel has plenty of warmth in the lows and mids
and a vibrant top end that cuts through where needed. It is quickly
being acclaimed by many players as the clean sound they have been
looking for.
The Rage Channel has optimized crunch for classic rhythm
playing and enough gain for classic style lead playing. This channel
responds well to your guitar's volume control .Back it down a little and
the guitar goes from distorted to semi distorted. Back it down a lot and
you can play clean. It is truly in the style of a Plexi AC/DC vibe.
The Scream Channel has over the top Hi gain suitable for
aggressive modern lead and rhythm playing. All the sustain and harmonics
you could want are right at your fingertips and they respond dynamically
to your playing. Vary the intensity of your picking and you can vary
your sound. This channel passes the true test of a Hi gain channel, you
can switch pickups on your guitar and actually tell you have made a
change. Practicing at low levels is not a problem either. The Scream
channel has enough gain to maintain its sustain and harmonic complexity
even at the quietest levels.
POWER AMP:
Four EL34 tubes together with oversized transformers produce
in excess of the usual 100 watts found with most four tube power stages.
The oversize transformers deliver wider frequency response creating more
authoritative lows and clearer highs. For further refinement the front
panel Global Bass Throb and Presence controls allow further tailoring of
the frequency extremes. The Bass Throb gives up to 10 db of boost to the
100hz region, highly useful for modern detuned music, this can make your
low strings move your pants legs. This control also is great for
restoring lows lost when practicing at bedroom quiet levels. The
Presence control boosts or cuts the frequency region above where the
channel Treble controls are set.
Protection to the power amps internal componentry against
damage from output tube failure includes ceramic tube sockets and
strategically placed fusible resistors. The output tube bias circuitry
contains both bias and balance pots. Setting the balance pot when
biasing tubes allow a matched set of tubes to truly perform as matched
because any circuitry inequities that skew tube matching on either side
of the push-pull circuit can be adjusted out. This improves touch
sensitivity, bass response and harmonic balance. If desired the amp can
be run with 6L6 tubes instead of EL34's by making a jumper change inside
the amp and rebiasing.
ONBOARD EFFECTS:
The Scream 130 contains an onboard Digital Reverb and Delay
effects module. One effect can be assigned to each channel. For example
reverb can be assigned to the Clean Channel and Delay to a distortion
channel. Then, when the channels are selected the amp will go from clean
with reverb to distortion with delay by pushing only one footswitch. No
more tap dancing on pedals while trying to play. There is also a master
kill switch on the foot pedal for the internal effects.
EFFECTS LOOP:
If there is a feature on most guitar amps that can invoke a
primal scream from a guitar player it is the effect loop. It seems that
as soon as effects are interfaced sound quality is never what it was
before hooking in the effects. We designed the Scream 130 effects loop
to be as sonically transparent as possible with low impedance drive and
high impedance return to better match a variety of effects devices.
There are send and return level pots and a loop level switch to maximize
level interfacing with effects. Perhaps its most important feature is
that the effects loop is switchable to parallel mode so your dry signal
never has to leave the amp and be subject to degradation by an external
effect. For example, if a delay pedal is hooked into a series loop there
is only one signal path so the signal must leave the amp at the send
jack be processed in the delay pedal where the ratio of wet to dry is
set. The entire signal, both dry and delay are subject to the sound
quality of the pedal itself and further degradation occurs to the signal
through level and impedance mismatches. In a parallel loop the pedal is
set to 100% effect and returns only the delays which are mixed back with
the dry signal by the return circuitry. The dry signal never leaves the
amp so its sound does not change.
FOOTSWITCH:
Included with the Scream 130 is a five button Footswitch with
LED indicators for each function. Access to any channel requires only
one footswitch press. A master internal effects switch and control for
the secondary master volume are included also. The footswitch has a
roadable, powder coated, long lasting steel chassis and the footswitches
are high quality individually mounted and hard wired to the internal
circuitry. This, while more expensive to produce eliminates the problem
PC board mounted switches have when they break their solder joints due
to stress and vibration and then stop working. A detachable and easily
replaceable 25 foot computer style cable is included eliminating the
stress and eventual failure of a hardwired cable which will eventually
fail where the cable enters the pedal housing.
OVERALL CONSTRUCTION:
The amp is built on a steel chassis for strength and
better noise shielding capability than aluminum. Our cabinets are
covered with Primalskin covering that will not tear. Internal components
are high quality and all audio signal cables are made from Mogami studio
quality cable.
Many amps today are designed for ease of construction and
economy. Unfortunately this does not increase reliability and since
little thought is given to ease of servicing, repair costs become higher
and the amp often can not be restored to factory condition. Primal goes
the extra mile, integrating a philosophy of ease of service and long
term reliability. The Scream 130 is comprised of modular units that are
easily replaced for servicing. By replacing the entire problem PC board
rather than repairing at the component level, the problem area is
eliminated and the amp is restored to factory spec. In regard to long
term reliability much thought has been given to component mounting.
Large devices are bolted down in addition to soldering so vibration will
not cause them to come loose over time. Everything in the Scream 130
chassis was looked at and then looked at again in terms of long term
reliability. It doesn't matter how great your amp can sound if it makes
no sound when you go to play it.
We invite you to take a trip to your nearest Primal dealer, grab
a guitar and channel your most primal rage into a Scream 130. . But be
forewarned!!!!! It is a trip to an emotion buried deep inside yourself
that has been waiting to be released for thousands of years. |
